THANK YOU so much for all your support!!!
INCREDIBLE generosity from sooooo many people- just when financial desperation sets in BOOM!
It all works out.
It would be so easy to give up- but we CAN'T and we THANK YOU for sticking with our little medical team for MISSION #7!!!!
I hate to bring up all the blankety-blank fundraising that we do all year.....we will be at the Winter Arts Festival at the Depot this Saturday..... I feel like when people see me coming they try to hide at times. Forgive me!!! I can get carried away. It is just so personal for me.
I wish everyone could be in my shoes and hear the people thanking us---
It's not just me they are thanking, its ALL OF YOU!!!
They say "you came back!!!" over and over again- it gives them hope to know that we care about them, that they have not been forgotten or ignored.....
There was not a single medical team in Lacoma from April when we left until November when we came back. No one.
Madam Anatol is the SOLE medical person for the entire community of 65,000 people. She is incredible! She studied nursing and social work in Port au Prince then moved to Lacoma with her husband, a preacher. She works 24/7 (lives right next to the clinic so is on call all the time whether she wants to be or not) and has 3 young children- the last of whom was born 2 months ago- and her husband is usually not home as he runs a free school for a community about 90 minutes away. She also is in charge of handing out rations from Food for the Poor or whoever donates to the community and THAT is a crazy scene since everyone is pretty hungry these days.
|Wonder Woman- for REAL!!!|
Hurricane Sandy did a number on Haiti--- you may have read that there was 50-some deaths reported, but the big issue is that the CROPS were damaged extensively so there is going to be big time starvation the next 9 months. It is hard to comprehend how there could be LESS food and resources available, but it's inevitable when the crops are gone. The erosion in Haiti is incredible- deforestation + flooding = BIG problems.
Thanks to your donations we were able to provide medical care to more than 400 people in Lacoma, NW Haiti and the tent city Canaan just outside of Port au Prince!!! We also left both areas with about 3 weeks of medications and supplies! Without this they would have NOTHING
